It all started with Honey Mustard...
I went to college at Bradley University in glorious Peoria,
IL for roughly 4 years. There I developed a taste for dipping
sauces when most of my meals consisted of pizza, fried stuff,
burgers, and your basic college finger foods. Back then I'd
use a lot of ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, and my favorite
honey mustard (HM) sauce.
The problem was that HM was
not the same from place to place. After sampling many bar/restaurant
versions of HM I found some good, some bad, and some ugly but
nothing was a "perfect 10" on my HM ranking system.
This got me thinking "How hard can it be to make my own?"
After several awful test batches I finally had something that
was great but still not perfect. Then one Sunday morning after
a typical college weekend night of partying I added a seemingly
insignificant ingredient to the latest batch - and that
nailed it! The result was the first perfect 10 on my totally
unofficial HM scale.
From then on I would only settle for my homemade HM. Everyone that
tried it would say one of 2 things: 1. "This is the best
honey mustard I've ever had"; or 2. "I don't
usually like honey mustard but I really like this." Finally,
enough people told me I should bottle and sell it that I decided
to take the leap. And on the recent passing of my Father and Mentor,
in 2005 I started the company - just like Pop would've wanted.
Since then I've realized I have a lot of friends and family with great sauce recipes. We now have 3 more fabulous flavors all invented by people I know each having their own short story...and there are more to come. Said simply, the Dean's World Famous brand has turned into delicious shelf stable sauces developed by my friends and family. I hope you enjoy them all!
